Terms of Service
Last Updated: February 2026
By registering for a tax clinic appointment with Toronto Hong Kong Parent Group ('we', 'us'), you agree to the following terms. Please read them carefully before using our registration platform.
Service Description
Toronto Hong Kong Parent Group operates a free tax clinic under the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Our trained and CRA-certified volunteers assist eligible individuals and families in completing simple personal income tax returns at no cost.
Eligibility Requirements
To use our service, you must have a modest income and a simple tax situation. Income thresholds are set by the CRA and are based on family size. Generally, individuals with income under $40,000 and families with combined income under $70,000 (plus $5,000 per additional person beyond five) may qualify. You are not eligible if you have business or self-employment income, rental income, capital gains or losses, employment expenses, interest income exceeding $1,200, foreign income or foreign property (T1135), or if you are filing for a deceased person or someone who declared bankruptcy in the tax year.
What Our Service Covers
Our volunteers will assist with the preparation and electronic filing of simple personal T1 income tax returns for eligible individuals. This includes employment income (T4), pension income (T4A), OAS/CPP benefits, EI benefits, interest income under $1,200, RRSP contributions, eligible deductions and credits, and the Ontario Trillium Benefit application where applicable.
What Our Service Does Not Cover
Our service does not cover: self-employment or business income; rental income and expenses; capital gains or investment losses; employment expenses (e.g., union dues deducted separately, home office for employment); foreign income or assets requiring T1135; complex trust income; returns for deceased individuals; or any situation requiring professional tax or legal advice beyond the scope of the CVITP program.
Appointment Rules
Please arrive on time for your scheduled appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may not be able to accommodate you and your spot may be given to a walk-in. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so as early as possible using the registration lookup page so that others may book your slot. Bring all required documents (government-issued ID, SIN, all tax slips, and any relevant receipts). Incomplete documentation may result in your appointment being rescheduled.
Volunteer Limitations
Our volunteers are trained and certified under the CRA CVITP program but are not professional accountants, tax lawyers, or financial advisors. The assistance provided is limited to completing your tax return based on the information and documents you provide. We are not responsible for errors arising from incomplete or inaccurate information provided by you.
Disclaimer of Liability
Toronto Hong Kong Parent Group and its volunteers provide this service in good faith and to the best of their ability. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all liability for any errors, omissions, or consequences arising from the tax returns filed on your behalf. We strongly recommend that you review your completed return before it is filed and retain a copy for your records.
Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of our registration platform constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
